"Re-live Memories" is an interactive cutout sculpture inviting both myself and passersby to journey back in time, reliving one of my most cherished moments. This sculptural recreation dives back to my memory and photo of my vacation in Alaska in 2007, where my brother and I posed alongside a Sarah Palin cutout. This memory and photo is significant in that it was the first time I ventured out so far west, and I always viewed Sarah Palin as a “cool” celebrity I shall meet.
The sculpture extends an open invitation for the public to step into my place, posing beside Palin and my brother, thus delving into the layers of reality: the original moment captured in 2007, the photograph of that memory, its transformation into sculptural form, and the inclusion of the latest cutout of Palin, echoing the initial snapshot.
Tools: Wooden Fabrication
Size: 5ft x 4 ft
Role: Fine Artist, Designer
I invited my friends to pose as me in the cutout sculpture. In the second to last photo, my friend Sophia Cao (yes, another Sophia!) is taking my place in the photo. In the last few photos, you see that the cutout of Sarah Palin is raised (echoing the original cutout I posed with), commenting on the next layer of space explored in this photo recreation.
