Besides designing, I also love to create art. I have been painting and drawing ever since I was 6, and since then I have developed a passion for creating animations, objects, and drawings that talk about the world around us. When I was a child, I was incredibly shy and would often get bullied because I was afraid to talk. So, I would turn to drawing to express my emotions and cope with my anxiety.
Since then, I learned to open up by showing my art and explaining what art means to me to other people. By sharing my artwork, I was able to find my community and thrive as a student, artist, and designer. I finally declared a Fine Art Major in my college, Carnegie Mellon University even though my parents encouraged me to pursue STEM fields. I love the creativity and freedom in art, as it allows me to express my feelings that are too complicated to express through writing or speaking.
In my studio!
Currently, I am working to be a designer. However, I still am able to use art-thinking in my design practice. Even though both Art and Design can be very different - with Design being a more scientific, logic-driven process; and Art being of a means to express feelings and discover truth, I believe they are interconnected.
Specifically, I see Art as a way to ask questions about the world, and Design as a way to solve the great problems that the world are facing. By combining both thinking processes, and by using technology as the bridge to instigate the changes, I believe both artists and designers have alot of power to shape the world.
I am incredibly grateful to have graduated Carnegie Mellon University School of Art with 2 awards for excellence in art. In 2019, I won the Anne Ophelia Dowden Award for Excellence in Art and in 2020 I won the John L. Porter Art Award for Excellence in Art for my artworks. Being in this school has definitely helped me loosen up and provide resources for me to take risks. I am grateful to learn from my peers and professors, who have helped me realize my potential.
