This illustration reimagines the iconic Tank Man photograph taken in China, serving as a commentary on the transformative power of knowledge and literature in inspiring revolutions. Placing the figure of the "tankman" atop controversial books delving into the depths of the human psyche and societal inequalities, the artwork symbolizes the intersection of intellect and activism in shaping our world.
From an early age, societal norms have dictated our behavior and appearance. Under the weight of these expectations, we've succumbed to conformity, becoming more like standardized components in an assembly line rather than unique individuals.
Women, compelled to conform by societal pressures, speak into speakerphones, yet their voices remain trapped within the confines of this box-like apparatus, unable to be heard.
Pianos symbolize the mantra "practice makes perfect” - with recitals being the epitome of musical excellence. Despite not playing the piano extensively, I felt a deep connection to the instrument and the musicians who played it. Growing up, I grappled with the overwhelming pressure to excel in every role—as a student, daughter, and girl—imbued with the belief that hard work was the key to perfection.
